Annual meeting: ASENEM
During the last 30 years, the Spanish Association of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ASENEM) have celebrated an Annual Meeting in Spain.
Moving around different Spanish cities, this meeting combines basic educational programs in Neurogastroenterology, addressed to gastroenterology trainees, with exhaustive and high-quality lectures about hot topics in Neurogastroenterology and Motility addressed to clinicians and researchers interested in Neurogastroenterology and Motility.
This year, the 30th annual meeting of ASENEM took place in Granada between the 3th and 5th November 2022 in a hybrid format, including both face-to-face and virtual attendees. In the postgraduate program course, 62 gastroenterology trainees reviewed the most relevant topics in Neurogastroenterology and Motility with experts from all around Spain, including theorical lectures and practical seminars, giving the opportunity to the young ones to discuss with experienced clinicians in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
After the postgraduate course, the program of the meeting started with 2 interesting lectures about gastrointestinal motility, presenting the applicability of high-resolution gastrointestinal manometry in clinical practice and reviewing one of our hard nut to crack topics in our daily practice: iatrogenic gastric dysfunction. Next, new tools in phytotherapy to manage gastroesophageal reflux disease were presented in a practical symposium. The State of Art Lecture included a comprehensive review of bile acid diarrhea, where useful tips for management of this disturbance were given. The day concluded with excellent lectures about the pathophysiology of functional gastrointestinal disorders: from microbiota to microinflammation going through visceral hypersensitivity.
The second day started with oral abstract presentations of original research studies. Thereafter, it was esophagus section turn. This session included lectures on the new published guidelines on post-ictus dysphagia, pH- impedance and the value of new proposed measurements to improve GERD diagnosis and finally, a practical lecture on tricks, traps and myths of high-resolution esophageal manometry. The meeting continued with a joint presentation with the Spanish Association of Pediatrics and Nutrition discussing the differences and similarities in management of chronic constipation between adults and children. The last session focused on the contribution that high resolution ano-rectal manometry added to the conventional technique, emphasizing that new techniques are useful but the old ones don’t have to be neglected.
With 180 face-to-face attendees, 125 virtual registered delegates and 16 national and international speakers, the 30th meeting of the Spanish Association of Neurogastroenterology and Motility has successfully accomplished the attendance expectations.
