DISCOvERIE: Better diagnose, prevention and treatment for IBS patients
More than 60 million Europeans suffer from anxiety and depression or fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. These conditions (comorbidities) are common in Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which is a chronic health condition experienced mainly by women.
DISCOvERIE is a project funded under H2020 Research Programme of the European Commission (Grant Agreement nº: 848228) precisely with the aim of studying the existing link between anxiety and depression and irritable bowel syndrome – a brain-gut connection while identifying biomarkers for more accurate and earlier diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of patients’ condition.
This 5-year project is coordinated by the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and includes 19 partners from 10 European countries and United States, collaborating with clinical and research experts and opinion leaders in the field of neuro-gastroenterology, psychiatric disorders and somatic pain disorders to contribute to new directions for clinical research and personalized care.
DISCOvERIE is a pioneer in Europe in this field of research by coupling an innovative and disruptive approach, hence the findings of this project will directly impact patients’ quality of life.
