DISCOvERIE: Better diagnose, prevention and treatment for IBS patients

The EU-funded project DISCOvERIE has reached the 50% of its timeline to position Europe as a global leader in comorbid IBS personalised medicine. The main hypothesis is that comorbid IBS represents a distinct clinical entity, arising from distorted brain-gut communication with a unique, specific, but undefined pathophysiological origin, differing from IBS alone.

Two I-NGM Meetings in 2022

What a highlight! In fact two Israeli NeuroGASTRO meetings were held in June/July 2022: The annual meeting of I-NGM took place in Nazareth from June 30 to July 1. Leading national and international experts attended to exchange and discuss latest findings on esophageal diseases and particularly GERD. The semi-annual meeting of the Israel Gastroenterology Association (IGA) took place in Tel Aviv on July 19.

IBS Days in Bologna with experts from all over the world

"New insights for a better management of irritable bowel syndrome" was the motto of this years IBS Days in Bologna with experts from all over the world. The 2022 edition of the biennial IBS DAYS congress was held in Bologna on June 20-22 and provided current views and a look to the future on the rapidly advancing field of IBS.

New guideline is out: Functional bowel disorders with diarrhoea

Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) and functional diarrhoea (FDr) are the two major functional bowel disorders characterized by diarrhoea. UEG and ESNM published the new clinical guideline “Functional bowel disorders with diarrhoea”. Graphic Abstract: Functional Neuroimaging in IBS

In a study Nistico et al. reviewed literature on functional neuroimaging in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to find out whether there are similarities between those seen in IBS and other functional disorders, especially functional movement disorders (FMD). The study revealed abnormal activation and functional connectivity of brain areas of IBS patients which coincide with examinations of FMD patients. Nistico et al. hypothesize that various functional disturbances may share a common pathophysiology.

Biennial Meeting NeurogastRO, Romania 

The 2022 Romanian meeting of neurogastroenterology “NeurogastRO” was held between 24th and 26th of March in Cluj Napoca as a hybrid meeting. Both leading experts and young investigators from Romania and other European countries involved in the field of digestive motility and functional gastrointestinal disorders took part in the biennial meeting organized by the Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology.

UEG Rising Star 2022

Congratulation to Tim Vanuytsel who was selected as one of ten UEG Rising Stars 2022! His application was supported by ESNM! The UEG Rising Star Award is awarded every year to the most promising young researchers in basic, translational, and clinical science to further evolve their professional career. Awardees are jointly selected by the UEG National Societies Committee and the UEG Scientific Committee. For the Rising Stars 2023 application is open until September 2, 2022.
